This is a 7-day itinerary for the Rongai Route on Mount Kilimanjaro. The route is a steady ascent, making it a good option for those with less experience. The itinerary includes a day of acclimatization at Mawenzi Tarn, which helps to reduce the risk of altitude sickness. The final day of the climb is a long and challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, there is a descent to Horombo Hut, followed by a final descent to Marangu Gate.

The itinerary also includes 3 days in Zanzibar, a beautiful island off the coast of Tanzania. In Zanzibar, you can explore the historic city of Stone Town, go on a spice tour, or relax on the beach.

Day 1-3: Kilimanjaro Climb (Rongai Route)

Day1

Arrival - Kilimanjaro Airport

  • This is the first day of your trip, and you will arrive in Marangu, the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • You will check into the Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort, a beautiful hotel located in the foothills of the mountain.
  • This afternoon, you will have a pre-climb briefing with your guide and meet your fellow climbers.
Day 2

Transfer to Rongai Gate and hike to Rongai One Camp.

  • On this day, you will transfer to Rongai Gate, the starting point for the Rongai Route.
  • The hike to Rongai One Camp is relatively short and easy, and you will have stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
  • This is a good opportunity to acclimatize to the altitude and get a feel for the climb.
Day 3

Hike to Second Cave Camp.

  • This day’s hike is a bit longer and more challenging than the previous day.
  • You will hike through a variety of terrain, including rainforest, moorland, and desert.
  • The views from Second Cave Camp are amazing, and you will be able to see the Kibo Crater in the distance.
Day 4

Hike to Kikelewa Caves.

  • This day’s hike is relatively short and easy.
  • You will hike through a beautiful valley with giant senecios, and you will have the opportunity to see some wildlife, such as monkeys and elephants.
  • Kikelewa Caves is a great place to relax and acclimatize before the next day’s hike.
Day 5

Hike to Mawenzi Tarn.

  • This day’s hike is a bit longer and more challenging than the previous day.
  • You will hike through the lunar desert of the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo.
  • Mawenzi Tarn is a beautiful spot, and you will have the opportunity to see some amazing views of the surrounding area.

Hike to Kibo Camp.

  • This day’s hike is the longest and most challenging of the climb.
  • You will hike to Kibo Camp, which is located at the bottom of the Kibo Crater.
  • This is a good opportunity to rest and prepare for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Day 7

Summit night and hike to Uhuru Peak.

  • This is the day you will summit Mount Kilimanjaro!
  • You will wake up in the middle of the night and hike to Gillman’s Point, which is the first crater rim.
  • From there, you will hike to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
  • The views from Uhuru Peak are amazing, and you will be able to see for miles in every direction.
Day 8

Descend to Horombo Hut.

  • After summiting Uhuru Peak, you will descend to Horombo Hut.
  • This is a long and challenging day, but you will be rewarded with the satisfaction of having reached the summit.
Day 9

Descend to Marangu Gate and transfer to Zanzibar..

  • After summiting Uhuru Peak, you will descend to Horombo Hut.
  • This is a long and challenging day, but you will be rewarded with the satisfaction of having reached the summit.

Arusha to Zanzibar

Catch a flight (Precision Air) from Arusha at 11:00 AM, arriving in Zanzibar at 12:15 PM. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your chosen hotel in Stone Town, such as Serena Inn, for overnight stay.

Day 10

Excursion in Zanzibar

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your hotel for two tours of your choice, such as Spice Tour, Historical Stone Town Tour, Jozani Forest Tour, Prison Island Tour, or Sunset Cruise. Dolphin tours can be arranged upon request.

Day 11

Rest and Relaxation

Enjoy a day at leisure, taking the time to rest and relax at your hotel in Stone Town.

Day 13

Zanzibar to Departure Destination

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your East Coast hotel and transferred to Zanzibar Airport for your flight to either Dar-Es-Salaam, Arusha (Kilimanjaro Airport), or Nairobi (Jomo Kenyatta Airport) to connect with your departure flight back home.
