Tanzania’s safari selections might be overwhelming since each of the country’s safari parks has its own distinct attraction. The basic rule is to decide if you want to spend your Tanzania safari vacation in the north or south of the country.

One of the main reasons why tourists visit Tanzania besides climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or visiting Zanzibar is going on the classic style safari game drive.

The Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire are all part of the famed ‘northern circuit.’ The Great Migration of the Wildebeest passes through this area, which attracts the largest number of predators in Africa. It’s a fantastic place to go if you want to see a lot of big game. Ruaha National Park and the Selous Game Reserve are located on the quieter southern circuit.’ Although game concentrations are lower here, being ‘off the beaten path in pristine wildlife areas has an obvious allure.

Safari enthusiasts flock to western Tanzania to see the chimpanzees of Mahale and the wild attractions of Katavi, both of which have very few visitors. Zanzibar is a small island off the coast of Tanzania with an interesting history and beautiful beaches. Other island possibilities include Pemba to the north and Mafia to the south, both of which are popular diving sites.

Best Tanzania Tours & Safaris

Our Tanzania itineraries have been tried and true, and they guarantee once-in-a-lifetime adventures. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, for example, are the focus of the majority of our Tanzania itineraries and safaris. However, we also offer visits to Tanzania’s lesser-known and under-appreciated reserves like as Nyerere (formerly Selous) and Ruaha. Aside from that, the exotic Zanzibar and other Indian Ocean islands have fantastic beach resorts. Combining a luxury Tanzania safari with a tropical beach vacation is a great way to experience the best of both worlds — it’s simple and quick to plan.
Tanzania provides a diverse choice of safaris for first-time visitors as well as seasoned adventurers. Tanzania is a shoo-in for families since a child-friendly safari may easily be paired with a beach vacation.

Safari Parks & Reserves

Tanzania is home to a diverse range of animals and attractions, ranging from the famed Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater in the north to the calmer but equally stunning Selous and Ruaha in the south. Zanzibar, a tantalizing paradise to the east, offers beautiful beaches and marine activities.

The combination of this magnificent country’s parks and attractions produces a tempting balance of safari, wildlife, and beach. Depending on seasonal animal movements, the highlights of the northern circuit can be integrated over one week, and many will include the yearly migration in the Serengeti National Park as well as the plentiful wildlife of Ngorogoro Crater & Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park, and Lake Manyara. The attractions in the south are often seen to be more off-the-beaten-path, with fewer automobiles traversing the plains, adding to the authenticity.

Tailor-make your own safari

If you’d prefer a personalized, tailor-made package tour built just for you, let your Tranquil Kilimanjaro & Safari Specialist know what you’re looking for. Hot-air ballooning above the Serengeti, swimming with dolphins off the coast of Lamu Island, and snorkeling and scuba diving among the coral reefs of adjacent Pemba and Mafia Island are just a few of the activities available.

When is the best time to visit Tanzania?

“You can plan a Tanzania safari at any time of year, but the optimal time depends on your interests. If watching the wildebeest migration is the major reason for your trip, make sure you plan ahead. The greatest time to observe the Serengeti migration is from June to September, but you’ll have to remain in different regions of the park at different periods of the migration, and this isn’t fully predictable because it all relies on the rain.

If you want to avoid the crowds, stay in the Serengeti away from the wildebeest migration. March and April are the wettest months, and any safari during these months may be jeopardized.”

Why visit Tanzania and what are the main attractions?

“Tanzania is the ultimate safari location, with both quality and quantity on offer.” The wildlife watching is excellent, and there is plenty of places to explore and activities to do. In fact, even three Tanzania vacations, much alone one, would be difficult to cover all of the attractions.

The most well-known northern safari circuit includes the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater; the lesser-known southern safari circuit includes Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park, and the off-the-beaten-path western safari circuit includes Katavi National Park and the chimpanzee reserves on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.

Mountain climbers may be astonished to find that Tanzania is home to Africa’s highest summit. Mount Kilimanjaro is located on the border of Kenya and Tanzania, however, it is ascended from Tanzania.”

What is the cost of a Tanzania safari?

“Tanzania trips aren’t designed for large groups. A tailored safari for two or four people who book together as a family or friends is the finest way to experience the parks, however, this clearly comes at a cost.

You should budget US$500 per person every day as a starting point, but it’s impossible to put a particular value on a vacation because there are so many factors to consider.

Camping safaris, for example, are often less expensive than lodge safaris. The Serengeti and a few other northern circuit parks, on the other hand, include large hotels that are significantly less expensive than tiny, exclusive lodges and tented camps — albeit the latter are frequently more primitive.

The time of year makes a significant influence as well. If you’re willing to travel during the rainy season, you’ll get a discount, but visiting during the peak of the wildebeest migration would cost you more.”

What’s it like to see wild animals in Tanzania?

“Wildlife watching in Tanzania is exceptional. The northern circuit of Tanzania safaris includes Lake Manyara, Tarangire, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater. Any of these parks provide excellent game viewing opportunities, but some are seasonal.

Because you’ll be passing through a variety of ecosystems and surroundings if you complete the entire circuit, the experience will be enhanced.

It is easy to get away from the crowds due to the parks’ vastness, but because this is the most popular circuit, you will be surrounded by other tourists at times. If you really want to get away from it all, head to the southern circuit, where game viewing is a little more difficult but still excellent. This circuit may be better suited to return travelers to Africa who aren’t as focused on seeing the Big Five.”

How safe is it for travelers to visit Tanzania?

“Tanzania’s tourism sector is sleek and skilled, and a Tanzanian safari is often extremely safe.

However, because major towns like Dar es Salaam and Mombasa have a lot of minor crimes, strolling about alone is not suggested. Tourists are occasionally targeted in Arusha and other urban tourist hotspots, although most of the time the bother is minor and stems from touts trying to sell them something (anything from safaris to beaded necklaces). It typically only takes being solid and maintaining your position to defuse any issue.

In any event, most Tanzanian tour participants don’t spend much (or any) time in cities, so none of this is likely to be an issue.”

On a safari, what kind of accommodations can I expect?

“The safari sector in Tanzania is well-established, with a wide range of lodging options. Traveling with an outfitter that provides pleasant camping safaris is not only the most cost-effective option, but it also adds to the sense of adventure.

There are tented campgrounds (with actual beds and flushing toilets inside) offering various levels of luxury if genuine camping isn’t your thing but you prefer the romanticism of tented lodging.

There are hotels that give a complete detachment from the countryside, which means less danger of creepy-crawlies in your bed for those guests who like to spend their evenings in a less wild setting.

The present trend, on the other hand, is toward premium designer lodges that blend in with their surroundings and provide unrivaled levels of luxury and service. “The sky’s the limit!” says the narrator.

What can I expect from a Tanzanian African safari?

“When you go on a Tanzania trip, you can expect a once-in-a-lifetime adventure – or perhaps the first of many.” People who have been bitten by the safari bug tend to return time and time again to experience the African wilderness. It’s difficult to remain away for an extended period of time.

Tanzania is an excellent choice for first-time safari travelers since the northern circuit’s animal watching and African scenery provide all you could want – and more.

Tanzania is also an excellent choice for repeat travelers, as your first trip will just scratch the surface of the available tours.

Seasoned African safari aficionados will appreciate some of the more isolated parks, which have a variety of creatures such as wild dogs in the south and chimps in the west.”
