Pizza Hut recently sent a pizza to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, setting a new high-altitude PR record in the process.
During the journey, Pizza Hut Africa, owned by Yum! Brands (YUM), achieved a record for highest elevation pizza delivery at the 19,347-foot top of Kilimanjaro, according to a spokeswoman for Guinness World Records. The delivery began on May 5 and ended on May 8 when it arrived at its final destination.

Why should a pizza be sent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro?

Because it’s there, and because Pizza Hut is celebrating the opening of a new location in Tanzania, home to Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands at 19,340 feet.

A team of employees including Randall Blackford, general manager of Pizza Hut Africa, set the Guinness World Record for the highest altitude pizza delivery by land on May 8 after a multiday ascent that finished on May 8.

General Manager Randall Blackford, center, celebrates delivering a world record pizza to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania by presenting the crew a slice of fresh pizza delivered by Pizza Hut at the summit.
Thankfully, a battery-powered heater had kept the slices warm over the days-long journey.

The delivery commemorates Pizza Hut’s growth to its 100th nation, Tanzania, according to Randall Blackford, general manager of Pizza Hut Africa, and fellow Pizza Hut executive Laurie Schalow.

Employees prepared the pizza in the firm’s new restaurant in Dar es Salaam, then flew it from there to Kilimanjaro International Airport, according to the company. The pie was subsequently transported to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park’s trailhead.

Professional guides took the group to the summit of the mountain, Uhuru Peak, where pepperoni pizza slices were given around to celebrate.

Thankfully, a battery-powered heater had kept the slices warm over the days-long journey.

This was put into a unique Pizza Hut-designed pizza box backpack.

The heater was built within a specially designed Pizza Hut pizza box backpack.
With the addition of Tanzania, Pizza Hut now has a total of ten nations where their bacon spinach alfredo pizza with a bacon-stuffed crust and other delectable creations are available.

The business has expanded globally, with one of the busiest Pizza Hut restaurants in the world located within the S. Paulo Airport in Brazil.

Yum Brands, located in Louisville, Kentucky, owns and operates the corporation.
