Simba camp is the first campsite you come across on Mount Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route. It is located in the North East of the mountain and is an overnight campsite. The campsite is small in size since the Rongai Route is not that popular hence it receives a small number of tourists plying that route.
Simba Camp along the Rongai Route is situated just next to First Cave camp overlooking the magnificent plains on the Kenya – Tanzania border.
Pit latrines are the only form of toilets here and there are no more structures erected here.
Accommodation at Simba Camp
You are required to carry your own tents if you are planning to spend your night at this campsite. When using the Rongai Route the next usable camp after the Simba Camp is the Kikelelwa Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Location of Simba campsite
Simba campsite is situated on Mount Kilimanjaro’s northeastern part, just near the Rongai gate located on the Kenya and Tanzania border. The next camp after Simba Camp of Mount Kilimanjaro is the Second Cave Camp which is approximately 8 km from here with a trekking time if 3 hours.
Simba Camp Vegetation Zone
Simba campsite lies in the heath zone of Mount Kilimanjaro, just outside the rainforest vegetation zone which could possibly be the greenest vegetation that you would meet as you climb higher but less green than that of the rainforest vegetation zone.
Simba Camps’ vegetation has more animals than the other regions further up Mount Kilimanjaro.
