After the formalities and registration, the documents are then driven to the trail starting point.

Depending on the chosen route it will either be the Lemosho glades trail for the Lemosho Route or the Murram barrier gate for the Shira Route.

Distance from Moshi to Londorossi gate

The distance from Moshi town to Londorossi gate is approximately 82 km and it would take you about 1 hour and 45 minutes to drive from Moshi to Londorossi gate via the Shira Evacuation Road.

Location of Londorossi gate

Located 40 km (25 miles) from the border between Kenya and Tanzania, on the foot slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Londorossi gate lies only a short distance from the huge trees of Mount Kilimanjaro’s montane forest. The area around this gate looks deserted and remote as the only thing visible is tree plantations and a few houses next to the Londorossi gate.

The area around the Londorossi gate receives average rainfall levels.

How to get there:

Going to Londorossi gate, you will need a 4X4 vehicle like a jeep as the roads are rough rods that are maintained with murram from time to time but still cannot stand the rainfall. The road from the Arusha or Moshi to the gate is actually tarmacked but the remaining distance is a dirt road.

Where does the Lemosho Route Start?

The Lemosho Route starts right at the Londorossi Gate, where you enter the Kilimanjaro National Park by registering for your trip. However, the actual climbing of the mountain via the Lemosho Route begins at the Lemosho gate.
